1. Check the Foundation
The first thing we look at is the foundation. We want to make sure that the house is built on a solid foundation and that there are no cracks or other damage that could cause problems down the road.
Signs of foundation issues can include:
- Cracks in the foundation
- Doors or windows that stick
- Gaps between the floor and the wall
Generally, repairs can be expensive, so it’s best to avoid houses with major foundation issues if possible.

2. Review the Air Condition Units (HVAC)
The second thing we look for is a good air conditioning system. This is especially important in Texas where the summers can be very hot (external link). We want to make sure that the units are in good condition and that they will be able to keep the house cool during the summer months.
Some things to look for include:
- How old the A/C unit is
- What brand and make is the HVAC unit
- Is there visible wear and tear from weather conditions
- Is the temperature reading correctly on the thermostat
3. Inspect the Roof Condition
The third thing we look at is the roof. We want to make sure that the roof is in good condition and that there are no leaks or other problems. This is important because a leaky roof can cause damage to the interior of the house.
In conclusion, here are some things to check before buying a home
These are just a few of the things we look for when we are evaluating a new house. If you are thinking about buying a property, make sure to keep these factors in mind.
